A Toast to Frank - Mid-Century Glass
Among his many celebrated clients were members of the Rat Pack. The original Rat Pack was a social group its core members included Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. After Bogey died, Frank missed the camaraderie and decided to start his own social crew. Originally, Frank called his group “the clan.” When feedback suggested that some people would associate negative connotations to that moniker, Frank quickly decided to use Bogey’s affectionate name for his close-knit group of friends.
One of Roy’s favorite clients was Mr. Frank Sinatra. Although Roy is no longer with us, it would put a smile on his face to know that I remember the many stories that he shared with me. The tales were funny, a little naughty and most of all Roy spoke of Mr. Sinatra’s generosity. Roy was so entrusted that he even had keys to Mr. Sinatra’s Palm Springs home. He knew to have plenty of Jack Daniels on hand when Mr. Sinatra was set to entertain (as that was Frank’s spirit of choice). Frank was quoted multiple times that it was “a gentlemen’s drink.” Two fingers and two ice cubes. Interesting note…it is often thought that Jack Daniels is bourbon, but it is a Tennessee whiskey.
Top Note: Tennessee Whiskey
